What’s Really Hiding in Your Favorite Snack?
From gas station snacks to classroom conversations—what happens when teens start asking the right questions?
At Whiddon Rogers, we had the privilege of spending time with students to spark a conversation that goes far beyond the classroom. Together, we dove into the hidden impact that processed foods have on our cells and overall health. Using some of the most popular high school snacks and candies as examples, we challenged the students to look beyond the colorful packaging and examine what they are truly consuming.
Our interactive presentation invited them to first guess the ingredients—before turning the package around and reading the nutrition label. The surprise and curiosity in the room quickly shifted into awareness, as we broke down how those unrecognizable words affect the body.
To make it real, we brought in snacks straight from the shelves of nearby gas stations, such as 7-11 and Wawa. Side by side, we explored what’s in them, why it matters, and how small changes can lead to significant shifts in their energy, focus, and long-term health.
The best part? We didn’t leave them with fear—we left them empowered to question what goes into their bodies, empowered to make better decisions, and empowered to see themselves as worthy of food that fuels their greatness.
At Balcony People, this is what we love most—meeting young people where they are and equipping them with knowledge that will serve them for life.
