Finding Stillness in the Season of Shadows

If you haven’t noticed yet, I talk about every month like it has its own personality and flair—just like human beings. Because it does, that’s why people ask, “What’s your zodiac sign?”—because each month symbolizes something.

For some, October means soaking up the rich golden light of an early sunset. It’s the transition from warm nights to crisp evenings, paired with that long-sleeved flannel you've had since you were 15. For others, October is an invitation—an opportunity to unleash their most authentic selves through expression and chaos. For me, it’s stillness. For me, exploring my darkness.

Darkness? Alex? Dark? Yes. October often signals rest. It’s my cue to balance myself through reflection, to nurture my inner self after everything that has transpired over the past nine months. The rat race slows down; boundaries tighten—not rigid for the sake of rigidity, but firm so I can focus, stay healthy, and preserve the capacity to build a healthy legacy for my family and for the Balcony People.

I contrast the chaos of a Halloween sugar rush with October’s invitation: to be intentional—with nourishment, movement, and emotional balance.

As a person with blood type A, I’m highly sensitive. I tend to carry more cortisol by default and respond to stress in ways that require calming action. Simply put—I reap what I sow. What I give my time, my attention, my care—what I choose to invest in—determines what I harvest.

So this October, I sow rest, clarity, nourishment, and peace. I sow intention. I sow balance. Because when I do, October offers its richest harvest. And if I don’t, I don’t live the message of my organization: to empower others to shape a healthier future; to bridge emotional and nutritional wellness, recognizing their integral role in balanced living. My mission is to positively impact lives by offering guidance that fosters growth and sustainable change.

So, if you’re the one who waits for October to feel most like yourself while hiding behind a mask during the other eleven months—how will you ever evolve? Or if you fear the darkness that comes with seasonal change—what are you holding onto that you need to let go of? Or if, like me, you use this time to mentally prepare and build self-trust before “seasonal chaos” begins—what parts of yourself are you most proud of?

Wherever you are in this month’s shift, I encourage you: find stillness in this season of shadows. Explore both the comforts and the discomforts on a deeper level. The goal is to stay connected to who you are, to become spiritually aligned with where the Divine—and all of its angels—are trying to take you. Sometimes it hurts, but as someone obsessed with becoming self-actualized, it's one of the most blissful places to be.
